When I was young, I was horrified of becoming like everybody in their 20s: when they go out of college and into the job.
Most people would continue to repeat those 20s till the rest of their lives. Same job, same parties, same games.
These people are everywhere you look.
Yesterday I saw a reel about how relaxing drinking feels. And the most telling part is how people melt when they see a beer or a wine ad. The comments are full of it.
They cheer how alcohol costs less than coffee. I've cheered with them, before I decided to put my goals first. And then the whole perspective flipped.
We've been marketed a poison that stunts our progress, degrades our brain, body, spirit and often even relationships take a hit, and it's being sold as a reward.
These people are someone else's moms and dads. Parents. Maybe someday I'll understand the amount of stress associated with being a parent. But it is apparent to me, that a human being should be able to sustain anything without the need to reach for a drink. Not to mention that I would prefer to be sober seeing my kids do anything in life and to support them, as my parents did.
In reality, it's not just parents.
Most people are like this.
Hell, even Runner Clubs often finish their social runs in the bar with a beer and a cigarette. It's crazy. Wasn't the run itself the reward, the dopamine from it wasn't enough?
People seldom think sober, and clear thinking is impossible while being intoxicated.
Achieving anything great is titanic work, but a drinking habit turns it into a Sisyphus myth.
People lack direction, the mission in life and they decide to reach for easy dopamine in a bottle or a reel.
Stop and think: is this your dream?
Being where you are, in your current emotional, physical and financial status.
Is this where you want to stop or you have some kind of a vision, a better future for yourself?
If you won't strive to improve it, the status quo will inevitably shift towards degradation.
Design a life so compelling that distraction holds no power over you. Become so invested in your own creation that you can't afford a blurry mind.
Become the calm in the chaos.
